Overview Exploration geochemistry, also called geochemical prospecting, is the practical application of geochemical principals to mineral exploration. Its aim is to fine new deposits of metal or non-metals or to locate extension of existing deposits by using chemical methods. Exploration geochemistry involves the analysis of rocks, stream sediments, lake sediments, soils, waters, vegetation, glacial debris or air. In this area, SGS Minerals Services can be both a strategic partner and technical advisor. Through our global network of operations and laboratories, we deliver a broad spectrum of independent geochemical analysis and consultation. Innovation In North America, SGS and its precursors have provided exploration geochemical services to the global mineral industry since 1954. First as X-Ray Assay Laboratories and then, since 1988, as SGS Minerals, our flagship laboratory in Toronto has been a center of excellence for over fifty years. It has been the development and application of multielement analytical techniques to exploration geochemistry XRF in the 1960s, ICP in the 1970s, neutron activation analysis (INAA) in the 1980s, ICP-MS in 1985-1995 and Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) in 2000s. With our stable base of experienced staff, we are constantly monitoring new technologies to ensure we can provide more comprehensive elemental suites faster, at lower detection limits and more accurately. Locations SGS Toronto is the central core of SGS Minerals network North American laboratories and sample preparation facilities. With our facilities in Lakefield, Sudbury and Red Lake Ontario, Durango, Mexico and Elko, Nevada, we are constantly expanding to provide service and capacity wherever our clients need us. Leading exploration and mining companies, major geological surveys and research organizations located throughout the world access state-of-the-art geochemical analysis from SGS Toronto and its affiliates. These updated and expanded facilities share methods, expertise and a consistent approach to quality control and customer service with SGS geochemical laboratories in South America, Australasia and Europe. |
